The Footballers’ Union: Pete Weller: I am happy to go to the next level
The Football Players’ Union is in talks with a former Tottenham Hotspur player to bring his vision to Serie A. The Italian champions are currently running a €25m bid for Petes defender Peter Weller and are willing to make a similar offer for him in the future.
However, the negotiations are currently being handled by the Italian Football Federation and the offer is currently under negotiation.
“We have received a number of offers from other clubs,” said Francesco D’Errico, the federation’s vice president.
“It would be great to have Pete Wellers expertise, but there are other things that we need to work out first.
There are some talks going on, but it is only in the last week that we have started.
I am sure it will be possible to reach an agreement, and we will see what happens next.”
However the news that the FA has been talking to the Footballers’s Union about Petes offer was welcomed by many in the Italian media.
Peter Weller has played in Serie A for Tottenham since 2008, and has been one of the club’s key defensive assets in recent seasons.
In his career, the 23-year-old has made 1,937 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals.
This season he has scored seven goals, including two in his last six games, to put him on pace for 30 goals.
The move would leave Tottenham with a surplus of money in the transfer market and potentially create the chance for a number the club could pursue.
It is not known if a transfer fee would be agreed with either club, with the FA saying it would be up to the player if he wanted to move on.
We are in talks for Pete Welling as we speak.
